Commissions
Portraits:
Not all photos make great paintings – some are best left as photos. For this reason, I prefer to take my own photos of the person, preferably in their own surroundings, doing something that best demonstrates a bit of who they are. Usually this one photo session (or sitting) is enough to get this done, and then I will paint from the photo. If this is not possible, I will assess any photos you have prior to moving forward.
After the photos are taken, it can take up to 10 months to deliver the finished portrait depending on painting size and complexity. There also needs to be some time elapsed before varnishing, which I prefer to do before delivery.
Pets and other commissions:
These can come from photos you submit, but again, not all photos will work for a painting, so this will need to be determined from the photos ahead of time. I will not take a commission unless I am confident I can do a great job of turning your photo into a powerful painting.
Pricing:
The prices are based upon the canvas size (see pricing) and a commission fee which will be discussed. The commission fee is based on upon the complexity of the photo (number of subjects), the number of sittings required, the size of the canvas etc. The canvas size needs to be determined in discussion with me as some photos lend themselves only to certain dimensions in a painting. A head only painting will be able to be a smaller size canvas than a 3/4 body painting for example.
Payment:
There is a deposit paid before the first sitting (or the painting begins) of 50% of the total agreed upon cost. Typically we will discuss what the painting will look like/what photos will be used etc, and once this is agreed upon the deposit will be paid and painting will begin. The deposit is non-refundable.
Part way through the painting process, the client will see the layout. Upon completion of the painting the full remainder is paid. If the client requests any changes after completion of the painting (these must be minor changes), there will be an additional cost of $100.00 per change and this will only be possible if the artist agrees to the change.
The client is responsible for all framing, shipping, insurance costs and taxes above and beyond the cost of the portrait/commission.
